HELP A FRIEND, IF YOU CAN

Hello!

This year on September 30th I will be running in the Annual AIDS Run/Walk and I am asking for your help. My team, Pediatric AIDS Chicago Prevention Imitative, has helped give birth to a future without AIDS. Since our inception in 2000 we have seen the number of children born with HIV drop to nearly zero. Through the work of our case managers, we are living up to our mission of a future without AIDS. In 2011, PACPI clients delivered 65 HIV-negative babies. No HIV-positive babies were born to PACPI clients last year. PACPI successfully linked all 133 women case managed in 2011 to prenatal and HIV care, and helped them to address many of their other social, financial and basic needs.

Right now we are in a state of financial crisis. The state of Illinois has made drastic cuts to the HIV/AIDS Funding in the state, and it directly affects us.

The PACPI Case Management Program targets the state of Illinois’ most challenging cases of HIV-positive pregnant women and their families. PACPI serves up to 60 clients at a time and on average, 130 each year. Nearly 60% have household incomes equal to or below the Federal poverty level, 40% lack income to support the needs of the newborn and 87% lack permanent housing. Many clients exhibit depression and express feelings of guilt. PACPI clients also experience substance abuse, domestic violence and contact with the corrections system.

Every little bit helps. Five dollars would pay for a clients round trip fare on public transit to attend her prenatal care visit. Twenty dollars would pay for two cans of formula needed to feed our mothers newborns, since breastfeeding is not an option for HIV positive women. Forty dollars would purchase diapers and wipes for our moms. Fifty dollars would pay for a car seat for our moms.

Would you please consider sponsoring me as I get up off the couch and run for these moms and their babies? It would mean the world to me and them. By clicking the link on the top (or bottom of this email) you can directly contribute to my efforts.

Thank you,

Mary
