I'm a gardener and I am going out into the city to find me some flowers to eat! I promise just a few, yet I might take more than two! Though my co-worker hates day lilies; I agree they suck. They truly only belong in really empty places of one's garden or allies. Yet, there is a one great place they do belong which is on my plate. Tonight I'm going to fry them, this is the first time, but I know it will not be the last.
Gleaned* day lilly buds
1 egg
Olive Oil
Flour
Salt (teaspoon)
Pepper ""
Cinnamon ""
Cumin ""
Fill a sauce pan with about a 1/2 inch of olive oil (or any other oil you choose to use). Place on stove at a medium heat. Let oil get hot.
Mix seasonings and flour together.
Beat egg in small bowl. Dip day lilly buds in egg and then in the flour mixture. Repeat. Place coated buds in hot oil and let crisp!
On a plate place 2 sheets of paper towels. After buds are crispy take out of oil and place on paper towel. Let sit for 3 min. Sit back and enjoy what most gardeners find to be their nemesis.
Please be careful do not eat to many because you could have some issues that others might not like later.
* The Gleaners and I * by Agnes Varda
This is a great documentary film about gleaning and I would recommend it to anyone who really enjoys the frugality life!
HOLY HOLY I MIGHT GET CAUGHT BY THE COPS IN GARDENS! So good.
